Proverb for Today
He who handles a matter wisely will find good, and whoever trusts in the LORD, happy is he. (Proverbs 16:20, MEV)
Devotional Thought
I’m a control freak. I like to be hands-on, very involved, and in control whenever possible.
I hold on tight to every detail, making sure nothing slips from my grasp.
While this is necessary at times in specific areas, it’s an unhealthy and unhappy way to live.
Remember the feeling of satisfaction and pride you had after trusting someone for the first time and finding out they exceeded your expectations? The rush of excitement and boost of confidence that surged through you? How happy you were?
Let’s imagine you and I work together. If you knew that, without fail, I not only always fulfilled my obligations, but also always exceeded your expectations, you’d have pretty high trust in me, right? You wouldn’t hesitate to hand projects over to me, knowing you’ll be more than happy with the results. It’s a no-brainer! With a guarantee like that, there’s absolutely nothing to worry about! You can trust me fully, and walk away confidently, knowing everything that needs to be done will be done—and then some.
Well, I’ve got a secret for you. There’s someone we can trust 100% of the time, who always exceeds expectations! In fact, he is “able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20)!
So why do we have a hard time trusting God? He has never and will never fail. He is only, always good. And he does exceedingly abundantly above anything we can ask or think!
Please be encouraged today knowing you can trust God; it’s a guaranteed way to be happy.
